The Secret

Scriptwriter

maragold's picture

Well, The Secret strikes again.  A year ago I was crafting my goals and dreaming my big dreams.  I would watch a couple movies I downloaded from thesecret.tv every day that encouraged me to dream big.  And I dreamed big.  June 2007 was Script Frenzy at Nanowrimo and I took a stab at writing my first screenplay.  I didn't get very far, but I learned a great deal about the process and the format.  And spent some time imagining my thank you speech when accept my Best Original Screenplay Academy Award.  read more »

I read THE SECRET a year ago and my life has steadily improved since then.

maragold's picture

Just stopping in to say hello.  I found Good Karma last year shortly after I finished reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, but there wasn't much action here back then, and way leads onto way...

I want to share my remedy:  If life is knocking you about, try reading The Secret or watching the movie.

I can attest to the radical difference in a person's life that can follow applying the wisdom found within the book and movie.  I'm almost ashamed to talk about how much better my life was after a year's time.

My heart goes out to everyone who is living in despair.  I remember when every day was an effort that felt futile.  I knew life was out to get me, and it was too late to expect any more than I currently had in the world.  I could understand that my situation was the result of decisions I made, opportunities I didn't pursue perhaps, but I did not see how I could turn everything around.    read more »

How to Use "The Secret" In A Christian Way

BlueButterfly's picture

Do you want to know how to use the tools of "The Secret" the Christian way - in a way that allows you to maintain your Christian religious beliefs and achieve your desires?  It's totally possible and rather simple, (I find Joel Osteen's best selling book, "Your Best Life Now" to be an excellent inspiration and a helpful tool for both Christians and spiritual (non-religious) believers - Joel Osteen is a senior pastor at a growing congregation in Houston, Texas, and has a show on national and international television networks).

Notice how similar Osteen's concepts are to "The Secret's" and how it doesn't matter what religion you are, you can use these tools in your own way to create the life you desire!  Here is a brief paraphrasing of the seven steps that Osteen outlines in his book, "Your Best Life Now:"  read more »

Don't Rely On Your Thoughts For Everything - Take Action Too!

BlueButterfly's picture

James Arthur Ray, from "The Secret" said on the Oprah show, if you sit around and visualize, they'll come and take your furniture!  While John Demartini (from "The Secret" and Larry King Live) said, if you're really ill, start medical treatment while you explore alternatives, like thinking yourself well.

What they mean, is yes, the Law of Attraction does work and our thoughts do create our reality, but the rest of the world is going to keep moving forward whether you stop to create your reality or not.  You are still working on other people's time tables - the people you pay your mortgage to, your own body's cells that need healing, your husband who wants a divorce, your pet that needs to see the vet, etc.  So sometimes you need to take significant actions in the world, while you pursue creating your own reality on the side.  read more »

Expect vs. Detach - Approach to Desires - From "The Secret" and Others

BlueButterfly's picture

Why do some success coaches, Secret teachers, self-help gurus, and the like, say to EXPECT YOUR DESIRE without a doubt, while others say to DESIRE WITH DETACHMENT - desire without need?  Many of the teachers of "The Secret" say to expect your desire with unwavering faith, while other self-help and spiritual masters like Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer say to desire with detachment, intend without needing.  It's just two different ways of looking at or doing virtually the same thing and getting similiar, if not equal, results.

Example of Expecting Your Desire Without A Doubt:  read more »

You'll See It When You Believe It - Not the Other Way Around

HappyOne's picture

Successful New York Times Best Selling Author, Wayne Dyer, has a book titled, "You'll See It When You Believe It," published years ago.  Although it was written quite some time before "The Secret" or "What the Bleep Do We Know!?" ever came out, it supports and discusses a lot of the same concepts.  The main idea is, "You'll see it when you believe it," and not the other way around as is commonly heard, "I'll believe it when I see it!"  In other words,if you don't believe something is possible first, you won't be able to see it or recognize it.  read more »

What is the Law of Attraction & Does It Actually Work?

BlueButterfly's picture

What is the Law of Attraction?

The Law of Attraction can be described very simply in several different ways.  First of all, it's called a "law" because those who believe in it, know that it works all the time, without fail.  The Law of Attraction can be defined in the following ways:  1. The universal principle that like attracts like.  2. The principle that what you think about expands.  3. The principle that what you think about and feel about, you bring about.  4. The principle that you get what you believe subconsciously, or what you expect at the subconscious level.  5. The principle that energy flows where attention goes.  6. The principle that what you focus on grows.  7. The principle that you attract whatever you focus on, believe, or expect.  read more »

What Is Journaling and How Do I Use it to Create Reality, Manifest Desires, and Achieve Goals?

BlueButterfly's picture

What Are the Various Methods For Journaling to Manifest Desires, Create Reality, and Achieve Goals?

The movie, "The Secret," and its supporters, in addition to many other self-help gurus and modern psychologists encourage writing in a journal to help create the life you desire and guide you in setting and achieving your goals.  Journaling is a general process that can involve several different, specific techniques.  Your journaling can be as flexible or structured as you like.  One of the most important parts about journaling is that you enjoy the process and you experience the positive feelings about what you write, so that it feels as though you're actually experiencing what you're writing about.  You can use any or all of the journaling techniques; you may find one or two techniques that specifically work best for you.  read more »

What is "The Secret" All About?

BlueButterfly's picture

"The Secret" is both a book and a movie, written and produced by Rhonda Byrnes.  Due to its rapid underground popularity and because of its significant message, it was featured on the Oprah show twice in February 2007 with 5 guests from "The Secret" and 2 returning guests.  The first guests on Oprah's show were Rhonda Byrnes, Jack Canfield, Lisa Nichols, James Arthur Ray, and Reverand Dr. Michael Beckwith, with James Arthur Ray and Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith returning for the follow up show.

The movie features some 20 or so experts on "The Secret" from authors, entrepreneurs, etc. to doctors, quantum physicists, etc., all who successfully use The Secret in their lives.  It also features famous historic quotes from Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, and more (see http://goodkarma.org/node/150) that seem to support The Secret.  read more »

When you change your thoughts, you change the world

Yoda's picture

Many people opperate under the assumption that they accurately perceive "reality". They think that what they see, touch, hear, smell, and taste are "real". In addition, they think that the things they perceive are somehow separate from what they think, feel, and believe "internally". As if there is a world "out there" and a separate world "in here". But, what if they are in fact the same thing. What if the world "out there" IS actually the world "in here".  read more »

How to Use Vision Boards and Visualization Together - Achieve Your Goals, Manifest Your Desires, & Create Your Reality

BlueButterfly's picture

The movie, "The Secret" (about the Law of Attraction) explains two highly effective methods for achieving goals and creating your own reality:  a Vision Board and Visualization.  What is the difference between a Vision Board (aka Visualization Board or Treasure Map) and Visualization?  While a Vision / Visualization Board is a unified visual compilation of your desires in the form of pictures, drawings, and words, the practice of Visualization takes place entirely in your mind and body as mental images and feelings.  Each method is separately effective for creating your reality, manifesting your desires, and achieving your goals, employing the Law of Attraction, or like attracts like, but the two methods definitely work best together.  read more »

Oprah and Her Trainer, Bob Greene, Say Oprah Hates Exercising - Goes Against Her Beliefs in "The Secret"

BlueButterfly's picture

Why does Oprah's famous personal trainer, Bob Greene, think you have to exercise even though you hate it?  He allows Oprah to hate working out and makes her do it anyway!  I'm not saying that if you hate working out you should not workout, I'm saying, like Tony Robbins says, if you have to do something, find a way to make it enjoyable while you're doing it!

The common way to do this is to determine a reward before hand to give yourself after you workout, so while you're working out you know you have a reward coming.  But there are other ways to learn to enjoy something you hate but have to do.  Instead of getting on the treadmill in your home or gym, go for a nice walk outside if you enjoy that more, or put a movie (that you like) on in your home while you exercise (just make sure you can be focused enough to still work hard).    read more »

Jim Carrey knows the secret...

Yoda's picture

The message contained in the movie "The Secret" has definitely changed my life forever...in fact, it has changed your life too, as you are now reading what I have to say. Nevertheless, there are people who doubt that the law of attraction (the main message from "The Secret") actually works. With all of the examples of successful people who have used the law of attraction, I find it impossible to deny that it exists. Have you ever heard of Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods, or Jim Carrey. These are just a few of the people who attribute their success to knowing "the secret", the law of attraction. Of course they didn't learn it from the movie, but rather picked it up from some other source.  read more »

Lisa Nichols, "The Secret", Oprah - "Place an order with the universe... The universe doesn't hear that you don't want it"

BlueButterfly's picture

I like the two quotes Lisa Nichols from "The Secret" r(ecently featured on the Oprah Show) frequently uses.  One of them is something like, "when you're thinking about something it's like you're placing an order to the universe" and the other one is, "the universe doesn't hear that you don't want it".  Although she doesn't go into details, this is how I understand her two quotes.

We are all in the unusual restaurant called 'the universe' where everyone and everything is both a customer and a server all at once, since everthing shares one energy, there are no separate entities.  This restaurant has an infinite menu that you can order from and when you're ready to order, all you have to do is focus your thoughts on what you want.  Someone in the restaurant (it might be someone you know, a stranger, or even yourself) will bring you your order when it is ready.   read more »

An attitude of gratitude...

Yoda's picture

When I first saw "The Secret" I wondered why it was so important to be grateful for the things that are currently in our lives. I thought that if the whole point of the law of attraction was to make our life however we wanted it to be, then why should we focus on what we have now? This is where I was mistaken. It's not that we should focus on what we have now, we should focus on what we are grateful for that we have now.

The law of attraction states that we get more of what we focus on. So if we focus on all the things that are going wrong in our lives, like most people do, then we will get more of those things. The point here is to focus on the things we like so that we can start getting more of those things.  read more »
