food addiction
Okay. This seems interesting so here goes. I have been working on overcoming my addiction to food. I have always centered my life around food. Such as when my next meal was or treat. Even after eating I would still be wondering when I would eat again. I also will eat way past being satiated. I have had gastric bypass surgery and workout consistently but still struggle with the nutrition aspect. It's not that I don't know what to eat, I just don't or I eat too much of the good stuff too. I have realized part ot the issue is lack of other things to do that are fulfilling in my life. I work full time as a teacher and am currently raising my 7yr old niece and 4 yr old nephew which keeps me busy. However, I don't feel like I am living my life but just coasting through. When I try to think of things to do when I am not busy most are solitairy and or sedentary activities or involve food.
My best friend has recently lost 100lbs and left her husband and kids and is living the "good" life but I don't think that is even what I want out of life. I can appreciate being desired and admired for physical beauty but I would want someone to think I was much more than just a pretty face and good in bed. So how do you make the connection of the person you see yourself as being and actually being that person. My friend has decided that she is a party girl and that's the life she wants. I can't see myself wanting that life for a long time or ever. So how do you start life over at 32 and really make it one worth living?

You can do it!
What can I say that will encourage you?
I hear you, I'm about 100 lbs over-weight and trying to cure my food adictions. What is more I'm starting over at aged 47, after my husband's suicide almost 3 years ago. To me 32 sounds so much better than 47. Don't be discouraged. I'm studying Natural Nutrition in the hope that answers lie there - and already they are coming in... there is so much I could tell you. Your life is just beginning, don't lose 15 years and get to 47 only to wish you had done things sooner. I'm not here to tell you what to do... as the most important thing we have in our life is our right to choose.
I am working on potential pathways for people in our situation, who know what they should do, but somehow can't seem to do it. I guess the answer is: no one ever succeeded on what they 'should do'. These 'shoulds' are no our own, so we fail to acknowledge them and act on them. They seem imposed on us, so like a child we rebel and quite rightly. What we need is to get in touch with who we really are, what we really want and be clear on that.
What do you believe about yourself? What limitations are you imposing on yourself?...
There are so many more questions you can ask yourself. You don't have to tell anyone just acknowledge your own answers and there you will find you.
Let me know if you would like more questions...

Bad food choices...
Forgot to mention...
All the bad food choices catch up with you around aged 45. There is still time to fix them even then but the addictions become allergies and the allergies become arthritis and ME and these become even more serious problems by the time you are 65.
Best suggestion I can give you is to Drink 4 pints of water a day. This will help to reduce the allergies that you already have but don't have the specific information on yet. Because if you have addictions then you have allergies. What you crave, you are allergic (or intolerant to). Persist and your body rebels.
Sorry to be so down on this, and by 'you' I don't mean 'you' personally I mean everyone.
Love & Light,
Caz.

water, Tony Robbins, Ray Peat...
You make some good points... some remind me of Tony Robbins... he is absolutely the best at getting people to find their motivation and to actually make the changes they want... I would strongly recommend either his Get the Edge CD series or Personal Power II CD series.
Regarding the 4 pints of water a day - having been that route... very into healthly happy living... DO NOT deplete your body of its extremely important salt, or you will have even more health problems than you ever imagined! Drinking that much water everyday might temporarily help some things, but in the long run it will definitely hurt... if you want the most useful nutritional information I have found in the last 7+ years of searching - check out www.raypeat.org. I guarantee you won't regret it!
what can work
If you want to get rid of any addiction that flouishes in boredom the best way to get a handle on it fast is to follow a strict schedule. The schedule doesn't have to make you do anything out of the ordinary just keep yourself fairly busy until the addiction is not a major problem. Set up your daliy activities avoiding long spans of time with nothing to do. This way the food addiction gradually moves to the back of your mind and you don't want it as much as before. Sticking to a schedule can also greatly improve time use in all activities. If you adhere to a schedule strictly soon the food addiction will not be so powerful.
look locally
You could look for local Overeaters Anonymous meetings. You can also get a safe food plan from a doctor. This will let you know what your body needs. OA is great for the emotional side. You have to deal with the deep rooted reason as to "why" you eat. You need some type of emotional support. It's too hard to do alone and the self doubt and emotions that made you turn to food in the first place will continue to hurt.
