An attitude of gratitude...

Yoda's picture

When I first saw "The Secret" I wondered why it was so important to be grateful for the things that are currently in our lives. I thought that if the whole point of the law of attraction was to make our life however we wanted it to be, then why should we focus on what we have now? This is where I was mistaken. It's not that we should focus on what we have now, we should focus on what we are grateful for that we have now.

The law of attraction states that we get more of what we focus on. So if we focus on all the things that are going wrong in our lives, like most people do, then we will get more of those things. The point here is to focus on the things we like so that we can start getting more of those things.

So what is the attitude of gratitude? It's adjusting your focus, so that in every situation you are seeking out the good. It is about accepting what is, the present moment; finding the good in this moment, and joyfully moving forward. As I have mentioned previously, it is absolutely essential that we are happy and joyful in every moment. Our attitude (our thoughts and our focus) will determine our actions, which will ultimately determine what happens to us in our lives. If we are coming from a place of anger, fear, hatred, misery, sadness, etc. then our actions will reflect those negative emotions, and as the law of attraction dictates we will find ourselves in circumstances that promote more of those things. Alternatively, if we are joyful, happy, peaceful, and living in an abundance mindset, then we will get more of that in our lives.

One aspect that I really like about the "attitude of gratitude" method is that it focuses on how our feelings affect our lives. I have mentioned previously how our thoughts create our reality, but really, if we want to be more specific, it is our feelings, and beliefs that create our reality. Our feelings and beliefs are more powerful than any single thought and ultimately motivate us to action. This is why simple positive thinking doesn't work. If we believe one thing, then smear a positive thought over the top of it, we will most likey act based on our belief, not the weak positive thought we tried to convince ourselves of. However consistent thoughts do turn into beliefs and feelings, which ultimately affect our actions.

Another aspect of the "attitude of gratitude" that I like is that it teaches us to get back in touch with ourselves. To stop thinking so much, and start feeling more. Move towards the things that make us feel good and move away from the things that make us feel bad. Isn't that what are feelings are all about anyway...to motivate us to do more of something, or to deter us from it. Happy people act differently than sad people. Happy people treat others better than sad people. In my opinion, the happier each individual person is, the better our world will be. So, adopt an attitude of gratitude today. Start thinking about all the things in your life that make you happy and you will quickly see your mood turn around, your actions change, and your life will start moving in a positive direction.

emotions & manifesting

I've spent much time considering the role of emotions and thought in manifesting reality, and tothese are the conclusions I've reached. I'd love your opinion. Thoughts create emotion. Emotions combine with focused intention and manifest reality from Desire, which in turn is inspired by thought. The question is, where do the thoughts come from? I think that there are two sources of thought. One is how most of us think on a regular basis, this is based upon our past experiences and the beliefs we created by our perceptions. This type of "Thinking" is the internal chatter of the Ego Mind which many believe is Thought. It is really perception & judgement. The second way in which we "Think" is with the "Soul" or with Pure Consciousness. This is the higher self which shows itself mostly when we are living in the moment and flowing positive energy. This is the area of intuition, inspiration, and desire.

Terrific post...well put!

You hit on some very interesting topics. It always amazes me to think about the role of thought in manifesting our desires. The way I see it, everything we do begins with a thought. Before we have a belief, or an emotion we have a thought. The more that we repeat this thought, the more engrained it becomes, eventually turning into a belief. While we may not act on a single thought, we will most likely act on a belief. Our actions will ultimately dictate the course of our life. So what is the role of emotions? I think of emotions as sign posts, letting us know if our current course is correct or not. Basically, if we are happy, then we are on the right course, if we are sad, then we are not. I like the distinction you make between thoughts generated by the ego, and thoughts that result from connecting with the source.
